ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Now in their 23rd season, Mallarmé Chamber Players is an ensemble of professional musicians who are acclaimed for their "up close and personal" approach to chamber music, whether it's building bamboo flutes with third graders or performing in the most formal concert hall. They are connected to the poet Stephane Mallarmé through their shared philosophy that the true art is a unity of music, dance, literary, and visual elements.

Eclectic programming includes comments by the artists, that showcase the composer in his/her cultural environment, and highlight the communicative nature of chamber music. Although grounded in the traditional European masters, Mallarmé's special interests include commissioning and performing new works. Interdisciplinary, community-minded and globally aware, three to seven artists perform with dance, poetry, and music from the United States, Africa, Asia, India, Europe, and Central and South America. Funding for Dr. Kaldas' participation in this concert is provided by the North Carolina Humanities Council.
